Your purpose lies within the child inside you.
In the spiritual path, we often hear from experts that a child’s passion or purpose is evident at a very young age. The soul, still connected to its divine purpose, remembers why it is here and what it naturally enjoys doing. As caregivers or observers, we are encouraged to notice these signs in children—reading their energy and identifying their interests.
Having embarked on my own healing journeys and traveled many winding highways of self-discovery, I have often struggled with understanding my purpose. The spiritual community, especially in the media, sometimes makes it feel as though if you don’t know your purpose, you’re somehow lost or out of place in the world. That pressure was difficult for me to navigate because, even now, I’m still not entirely sure what my true purpose is.
However, during one of my journeys, I experienced a vision—or perhaps a memory—of myself at around seven years old. In this memory, it was an afternoon outside of school hours. I had placed a blank sheet of paper outside our home, gathered the neighborhood kids, and seated them on the stairs. They were listening intently to whatever I was saying. I can’t recall exactly what a seven-year-old teacher like me might have been talking about, but I know it was something under the umbrella of teaching—or perhaps guiding.
Looking back now, I can relate to that little girl who naturally loved to teach. Over time, life placed so many layers over that passion, but thankfully, I’m now on a journey to remove those layers, allowing that child within me to shine. Her soul is ready to light up, her purpose ready to serve her and the world.
To reconnect with your purpose, go back to the child within you. Remember what you used to do naturally. What brought you joy outside of school hours and when no one—especially parents—was watching?
That said, I don’t believe purpose is confined to a single thing. It may fall under one grand tree, but that tree can bear many leaves and fruits. So, don’t restrict yourself to one expression of purpose. If you know what your purpose is, that’s wonderful—continue exploring new ways and channels to express it. If you don’t know yet, that’s equally wonderful. It means you have the chance to keep exploring, trying new things, and meeting yourself in new and exciting ways.
Every new endeavor offers a fresh emotion, a different flow of energy, and an opportunity to feel alive.
Life is meant to be experienced fully, to be lived through its motions and felt through its emotions.
Always remember, you are guided. You are on the right track. And in this specific moment, in this unique space and time, you are exactly where you are meant to be.
